John Frieda Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Lightening Spray

Versatile, patent-pending formula with citrus and chamomile works with styling heat to gradually lighten and brighten for a natural-looking, blonder blonde. Contains thermo-protectant. Patent-pending technology combines fixative and conditioning polymers that retain hydrogen peroxide, allowing for control of lightening. Visibly lightens in 3-5 uses.

* please note John Frieda are in the process of updating their packaging.

Directions

Spray thoroughly on towel-dried hair; then style as desired. For optimal lightening, use a flat iron or curling iron after blow-drying. The more heat you use, the greater the lightening effects.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great - but be careful I have been using this product for about 7 years and it has saved me an absolute fortune in not getting my hair dyed at the salon. I was already a dark blonde and this product has turned by hair into a much brighter blonde. However, it is severely drying and probably works much better on thick hair. If you do use this long term, only use once a week (after you have achieved the colour you want) and also invest in good reconstructive shampoo/conditioner and elasticiser. That has seemed to balance out the negative effects for me. Overall, I would day worth it, but not for every hair type.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lighter hair without bleach I have used this product for years weekly after showering and it has been a life changer for me. As someone who has naturally brown hair but wants to have it blond it is quite a task to keep the roots from showing and maintaining the colour. Currently I have a light ombre which is very easy to maintain with ONLY this product. I do not colour my hair at all and have not coloured it in about 3 years. I included a picture where you can see it a bit better. It is a bit drying so I do not use it after every shower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great results with a bit of research I've coloured my hair 1-2 times a year for about a decade and this product is great to maintain salon results! However I would warn people that you absolutely must do your research before using any hair colouring product on your hair - some of the negative reviews here sound like people who haven't necessarily done this prior to using this product. You need to make sure that you're applying correctly (you shouldn't be going within an inch your roots, and you work bottom to top so the bits nearest the root have the shortest time to develop), and that you're maintaining your colour (over-exposure to the sun, pool water, and hard water from showers will make your hair brassy faster). This product also says you can use it a maximum of 10 times between colourings, but it does contain hydrogen peroxide (aka bleach) which means you should wear gloves and, more importantly, that you need to give your hair a break between uses. Using bleach makes your hair more porous anyway, so if you just keep redoing it, you're going to end up with dry, brassy hair and eventually hair loss as several of these reviews state. It probably needs a month to recover after a couple of uses. In short, make sure you know what you're doing before applying any type of permanent colour to your hair!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing product. Accessible and user friendly. Really great product. Easy to follow instructions. Left my highlights much lighter than their previous golden colour. Now they are far more blonde. Another couple of applications and they will be almost white, as required. Very impressed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does what it says but I won't re-purchase. This definitely lightens your hair when used just before styling (its heat activated). After three uses I noticed a difference and after a few weeks my hair was noticeably blonder all over. However, my hair was a kind of golden caramel colour already, so this just made my hair look ginger and coppery. The texture isnt great either but maybe if I had used this with the shampoo and conditioner it might feel softer? I would recommend this if you don't mind your hair looking slightly ginger as a result! I have since stopped using the product and my hair has gone back to normal. I wouldnt say this product does much more than the sun does for me in the summer! Another downside to this is that the heat activation means I'm having to damage my hair with every use. The smell is disgusting but just about bearable, but it really makes my scalp itch. It's almost sticky in my hair and makes it look rather dull. I think this is one of those marmite products- either you love it or hate it. I'm afraid I'm the latter, but gave 3 stars as it may just be my hair type that's letting me down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for darker blondes My blonde hair goes quite dark during the winter months and this really helps to revive it and get it looking much lighter!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite beauty product ever!! I've been using this product on and off for around 4/5 years along side the shampoo and conditioner and it is honestly amazing. I used to get highlights in my hair but since purchasing this I haven't needed to! I use it around 2/3 a week and usually don't even bother blowdrying my hair and it still works! Everyone asks me where I dye my hair and have to tell them that I haven't dyed my hair since I was 15 and they're shocked! Well worth the money in my opinion!
