Works well as a moisturiser and spf
I normally wear spf over my moisturiser and under my foundation and I struggle keeping everything in place throughout the day. This moisturiser sinks in pretty well considering the high spf. The texture is similar to moisture surge which is amazing for a high spf! Yes there is a slight stickiness but I find that works well as a makeup primer. I've also tried this on its own and it fully sinks into the skin after half an hour. I normally react with products with high chemical spf and high alcohol content but I've had no reactions, I put this down to the fact clinique know how to formulate their products without causing a reaction

Could be so good but....
I was looking forward to using this new product after using other superdefense moisturisers in the past and loved them. This product however is awful. The SPF part is great - no residue and sinks into skin straight away but the formulation leaves a lot to be desired. Firstly the presence of alcohol makes this gel cream smell like clarifying lotion which is not necessary. But the afterfeel on skin is dreadful - sticky and plasticy residue that does not disappear. I tried using DDML underneath and even a facial oil but still this horrible residue remains. Don't like this feeling at all. So disappointed!!

A huge NO
I have tried both Clinique Superdefense formulas-cream for oilier skins and this gel and I am shockingly surprised how the gel is awful... Leaves my face more shiny than DDM Lotion + (which contains a lot of oils btw), terribly red (like after strong cleansing and peeling masks) and sticky. No, this Superdefense gel it's not like Moisture Surge, not at all. I thought that cream formula would be heavier (even that 3&4 oil-free one) but actually is way much lighter than this product. This Superdefense 40spf doesn't even absorb a little into my skin. I am going to throw away this one and stay with the Superdefense 25 Cream formula-it's really good and has not any of this gel's flaws.

Perfect choice in the summer
What I love about this product: - no fragrance -not greasy It does not irritate my skin (which is a big thing), and even during the summer my skin does not get greasy (without being dried out). This cream has become my fav daily cream, I am definitely planning to rebuy it. Only one thing bothers me, that only SPF is indicated on the packaging, while in the description UVA protecting ingredients are also listed. I prefer if it is clearly indicated on the package whether the product has a broad spectrum spf. SO PLEASE CLINIQUE, NEXT TIME PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THIS!!! (Because I think this can prevent you from buying this otherwise super product)

Is sticky, leaves oily skin since the 1st moment, not for me
Just bought Clinique Superdefence SPF 40 gel, from Boots. I am not happy with this cream-gel! When I use it in the morning is like I add a small layer of gel on my skin that is not absorbed at all and just stays there, my skin is sticky, very shiny like I have used greace! Also, I feel it on my face, durring the day, It gets a bit dry and feels like a face mask, is annoying! I have used so many other SPF hydrating creams or serums and I can say this is one I would not buy again, not for my skin type (mixed skin, clean it 2 times a day, deep clean once at 2 weeks) actually it was a waste of money for me. Best to try a sample of everything on the face directly, before buying.

A great lightweight spf moisturiser!
I'm sorry some people have had trouble with this, but I absolutley love it! It's essentially all the fabulousness of Moisture Surge gel-cream with the benefits of Superdefence, and I couldn't be happier. It goes on beautifully - a little bit goes a long way so don't go mad - it doesn't particularly smell of anything, and it's great on both the oilyer and drier bits of my face. I spend a lot of time outside so this is a great solution for me, and unlike a lot of other high spf creams this one doesn't turn your face white! Nice work, Clinique!

Finally - the perfect SPF moisturiser
I have very oily skin and have really struggled for years to find a high SPF moisturiser that suits my skin. I LOVE this - I've been using it for over a year now. Like some of these reviews say, it can have a slightly sticky texture when applying but it absorbs into my skin perfectly, leaves it feeling bright, well moisturised, and has improved my skin texture over the last year noticeably compared to the regular dramatically different moisturising gel. It doesn't cause me breakouts or redness. I much prefer this to the SPF 25 version, that did leave my face too oily and feeling over moisturised - it didn't absorb as well. I'm dreading that one day Clinique might decide to discontinue this with all the negative reviews.

Was really looking forward to this launch
Was really looking forward to this product dropping... finally a facial sunscreen with som good active ingredients too and a gel formula not as thick as other products! Such a shame about the inclusion of denatured alcohol and it's so high on the ingredients list! No alcohol in the SPF25 why put it in this?! I'm fair skinned and so really need a higher spf but I have sensitive skin which this will not be suitable for! I will stick with city block.
