This water-free solution contains a 5% concentration of an advanced retinoid active complex called Granactive Retinoid that has been shown to offer better results against multiple signs of ageing than retinol without any of the irritation and drawbacks common with retinol.

Granactive Retinoid, an active technology from Grant Industries, is a solubilized system of Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, a highly-advanced form of retinoid which is, in fact, a non-prescription ester of all-trans direct retinoic acid that offers a multi-fold better effect against signs of ageing than retinol, retinyl palmitate and nearly all other forms of non-prescription retinoid.

Water-free, alcohol-free, silicone-free, nut-free, vegan, gluten-free, soy-free.

Directions

Apply a small amount to face in the PM as part of your skincare regimen, after water serums but before heavier treatments. Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected solar exposure. Store in a cool, dry place.

Squalane, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Bisabolol, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deals with minor wrinkles I’ve been using this product nightly for 3 weeks (used approx 1/6th of the bottle). I was hoping it would lessen the fine lines around my eyes, which are not quite full on crows feet yet but which had become noticeable even without a magnifying mirror as makeup and powder seemed to settle there causing a ‘highlight’ effect which I couldn’t find any other method of hiding (short of a paper bag). I’m delighted to report that those fine lines have smoothed out to such an extent that they are no longer visible even on very close inspection. This serum absolutely rocks! The only downside is a slight petrol fragrance, but that disappears fast. No big issue considering its wrinkle busting effects.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Proceed with caution Bought this for acne. I've been using retinoids for a couple years now, so thought myself 'experienced' enough to try this 5%. Used it everyday for maybe 10 days at night, with rosehip oil on top to further prevent dryness. All was well, skin was looking nice... but then suddenly dryness beyond belief - honestly the difference one day to the next was mad. I did also go swimming so that never helps dry skin, but I got out of the pool as scaly as a fish. This level of dryness has been very difficult to remedy and is not really cover-able with makeup. That said, now I'm 'recovered' and have gone through the acne purge you get with retinoids. I'm using it 2/3 times a week instead and my skin is on the way to clearer and smoother again. So do persevere with it, just don't jump in with such foolish gusto and confidence as I did - even if you've used plenty of retinoids before!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really good product I previously used the Squalane 2%, and felt that my skin needed a bit more. So I went for the 5%. I buy it mainly to try to lessen the marionette lines either side of my mouth, and although they'll never disappear my skin certainly is starting to look a lot better. I use a couple of drops in the evening, it absorbs quickly, then I use the Matrixyl. If you've not used Retinoid products before, start with 2%, see how it goes then go up to 5%.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolute game changer Thought it was too oily when first applied but quickly absorbs into skin. This literally erased my wrinkles, reduced the appearance of open pores, no longer have dark bags under my eyes and tightens your skin. I saw these improvements in my skin after using it for 3 days. Apply at night and wake up with refreshed baby soft skin. Really wasn’t expecting it to be such an amazing product at this price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it!! I never write reviews but this deserved my breaking that habit of a lifetime. I have tried many retinols but they left my skin tight and dry and desperate to moisturise, but this one is completely different. It leaves your skin so soft you can leave it on long enough to let it sink in before following up with moisturiser. Also, equally importantly, it lasts so much longer than all the others I have tried. Despite being quite runny it is so effective you just don't need as much to achieve full face coverage, it goes on so easily. This is the only one for me from now on!!

I currently started using 0.5 then I’m on 1% ! What is the difference from retinol to granative Retinol ? Also is this stuff good for  Stretchmarks ? If so should I start on the lowest % on a new part of the body ? Thank you

Asked by: Anonymous
The difference between Retinol and granative Retinol is that the granative is oil based and has very little or no irritation on skin compared to the Retinol. It can be used on stretch marks but i have no evidence that it makes a huge difference... you may be better off just using any oils like bio oil which has some good evidence that it helps.

My skin is combination type. I used it nightly and noticed my skin get drier in the cheek and less oily in the T-zone in the morning. Is this reaction normal? How can I reduce the dryness while using it?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi, Retinol is a weaker, over the counter version of tretinoin, a prescription vitamin A derivative that is highly effective in reversing sun damage and signs of aging. Vitamin A decreases fine lines, evens skin color, improves texture, tightens pores, and stimulates blood flow and collagen production. However this is a powerful product that can have some side effects, for example; a brief sensation of warmth or stinging immediately after applying, peeling, excessive dry skin, burning, redness and irritation. It may also may react with skin products, for example product that contain benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, acids (not including Hylaronic acid) and vitamin c can react to retinol. What we would suggest is lowering your dose of retinol to 3 - 4 times weekly at night until your skin has built up a tolerance to it and using The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil at night as it's full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that are known to correct dark spots and hydrate dry, itchy skin, all while reducing scars and fine lines. Thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.

Can I use this around eyes area?

Asked by: Chi Wai
Hello, I would recommend not to use The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane around the eye contour as this could irritate your eyes, I would recommend to use a anti wrinkle eye cream. Happy shopping! Thanks, Yasmin - Beauty Expert

How would the 5% differ to the 2% on the skin? Is it more likely to cause irritation to sensitive skin?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi, Thank you for your question! If you have not used a high strength Retinoid product before, it is recommended to start your routine with the Retinol 0.2% in Squalane and then go to a higher strength once your skin has built up an intolerance. Here is a link to the product: https://www.feelunique.com/p/The-Ordinary-Retinol-02-in-Squalane-30ml The Granactive Retinoids are highly advanced systems for the active ingredient hydroxypinacolone retinoate (HPR), which is known as a retinoic acid ester. Retinoic Acid is an active form of Vitamin A which unlike Retinol causes little to no irritation. Thanks, Billie - Senior Beauty Expert
